Hmmm…This story sounds strangely familiar to me. For those of you who don’t know, it was a very similar event that happened to my family last summer that propelled me to start my blog. Here’s my story:
So when I saw this pop up today, I did a double-take. At first glance, I thought it was a slow news day and they were just running our story again. Upon further reading, of course, I found that it was yet another example of goodness being shown to a mom having a not-so-fun experience.
Being a parent is no cake walk. Especially when you’re trying to be a good parent. And being a good parent while pleasing those around us? Nearly impossible. In fact, it’s not often that those two worlds meet. But in both my situation and in the case of this other mom, we hit the jackpot and happened upon at least one nice person. All it takes is one kind gesture to turn a bad day around. I’m happy this mom, this newest-addition-to-the-kindness-club-member, got to experience such a happy ending.
That being said, let’s stop making these things news. The only way we can stop turning these types of stories into headliners is to make it a more common occurrence. Let’s make a promise that the next time we see someone clearly having a bad day- yet trying their best to do the right thing- let’s pick up their tab. Or give them a pat on the back. Or reassure them that this too shall pass. Heck, even a simple head nod acknowledging that you’ve “been there, done that” will suffice. Pay it forward. Be kind. Treat others as you want to be treated.
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. ~Aesop
